September 11th, a day to remember and mourn the five thousand who died under the Twin Towers that inconceivable day one year ago. No doubt a day which millions of Americans will spend thinking, wondering, praying and watching tv-specials.

Actually, if I am to be picky, it was "only" roughly 2800 people that died, not 5000.

'Twas? Hmm, where did I get five thousand from?
Comment by tomas at 12:18, 11 Sep, 2002 #
Probably the early reports...there they even claimed that tens of thousands had died. Then they corrected it to roughly 5000. The final bodycount landed on 2801 people.

Let the people mourn. They are intitled to. Then that the leaders are a bunch of fools is a whole other issue.
Comment by Caine at 10:53, 12 Sep, 2002 #
What’s the death toll in Afghanistan up to?
And when will we see a CNN special about it? =)
Comment by Engen at 11:48, 12 Sep, 2002 #
Caine: If so, what kind of people elect fools for leaders?
Comment by tomas at 13:49, 12 Sep, 2002 #
Well, we do. Always has, always will. Mostly becuase choosing a leader for a country is most of the time a case of choosing between a fool and a fool.
And what are you saying? That just becuase the people elected a fool, they have no right to mourn? The thing with people is that it dosen't matter how good things get, they always find things to complain about. They want the perfect leader, the perfect system. And no such thing exist.
Comment by Caine at 14:41, 12 Sep, 2002 #
I don't think I ever, in my life, stated that the people does not have a right to mourn. If you want to put words in anyones mouth, put them in your own.
Getting the perfect system and the perfect leader would atleast be a tad more realistic if more than thirty-something per cent of the population decided to vote.
Helps if you count the votes, too.

"Helps if you count the votes, too".
Ouch. Touché and every synonym to that word.
But Caine has right. People have the right to mourn even if their leaders are incredibly dense. It was with this in regard I didn't do an update on 11/9. I figured the americans could do without at least one day of critisism (how the hell do you spell that word?). At the same time I didn't want to post something in line with "today we shall remember the victims of blablabla... it's redundant and unnecessary." Every single blog (almost) had some kind of tribute to 9/11 so I chose not to write at all.
Comment by talisyn at 17:21, 12 Sep, 2002 #
Like I said, I don't remember ever having refuted their right to mourn.
"criticism"
Comment by tomas at 17:25, 12 Sep, 2002 #
Nobody said you did, I asked you if that was what you were doing. Since you put it very close to the context it sure as hell sounded like it. But I will save you from yet again claiming that you didn't, and just say; my bad.
And yes, counting the votes would be a recomendation (if that is how it is spelled).
Comment by Caine at 17:43, 12 Sep, 2002 #
I don't know how you could parse anythin like that out of it, problem with English comprehension maybe?
Comment by tomas at 18:09, 12 Sep, 2002 #
No. Only with words like anythin.
Whatever. I got you wrong. Don't clinch to it like a madman.
Comment by Caine at 22:14, 12 Sep, 2002 #
I have little patience for having words put in my mouth. It has nothing to do with being mad, but to brush off bullshit. If you like it so much, why don't you eat it?
Comment by tomas at 01:12, 13 Sep, 2002 #
Well, well, Tomas. Looks like you cause the same problems on your site as you do on mine. Perhaps it is time to realize it's not everybody else that has the problem, but it's you?
It's not always what you say, Tomas. It's how you say it. You have a tendency to imply a lot of things with your words. People do know how to read between the lines, and your antagnostic attitude shines clearly in those spaces.
Comment by michele at 15:05, 13 Sep, 2002 #
Michele: Please, point out the very words that imply that I do not feel anyone has the right to mourn.
Please, go ahead.
The implication is not there, it's as simple as that. If people choose to jump to conclusions instead of using their brain for thought, I cannot stop them, but don't you dare blame it on me.
Assuming you mean "agnostic", that still does not imply that I refute their right to mourn. A=B does not imply B=C. I care little for the opinions of people who cannot grasp that concept.
Comment by tomas at 15:39, 13 Sep, 2002 #
LOL. Let's see how far I can take this.
It seems like it would be enough for you to say, that that was not what you meant, then I would say: sorry, I missunderstood you. And that would be that. But instead of doing something that simple you make it hard by being rude, and an asshole. I do understand the irritation with people putting words in your mouth, but please, it is human to be wrong. And I was. Apperently, but it still feels like I hit a soft spot.
Comment by Caine at 22:37, 13 Sep, 2002 #
Caine: You parse a lot more than there is substance for, it's becoming a nasty habit of yours.
I don't have neither patience nor understanding for having words put in my mouth, and I don't see why I should tolerate it.
"Simple" would have been for you to have engaged in thought before you wrote.
You not only implied that I do not think they are entitled to mourn, but you did so twice. I didn't see any reason to tolerate it, I still don't.
Furthermore, I don't think highly of people who fling bullshit around without hesitation only to "take it back" later, and throw another load in the process.
Comment by tomas at 03:02, 14 Sep, 2002 #
Damn. Just when I thought you couldnt be more stupid or arrogant, you prove wrong again. Jesus, I'm impressed.
Comment by Caine at 15:47, 14 Sep, 2002 #
A lot of things can be said of you, but don't let anyone tell you that you can't make a solid argument.
Comment by tomas at 16:21, 14 Sep, 2002 #
Yeah! Thanks man!
Hey! Waaaait a minute...
Comment by Caine at 18:32, 14 Sep, 2002 #
Can't keep out of this, so here it goes...
The aggression between Tomas and Caine is quite pointless. So what if Caine thought you were an ignorant prick? If you know that you're not, why care what other people think? And Caine, you can't convince him - so give up, or take it up a notch. You're both assholes, and you know it. =)
Just drop it, m'kay.

Talisyn: I don't see the greater point in being quiet. If being quiet was a virtue this blog would not exist.
Silence is, after all, not golden.
