Google news

Wow. That's the best word for it. Google News is fantastic. I don't know if a whole lot of stuff coincidentally is happening in the world right now, but I've never experienced such a violent flood of news before.

Not particularly surprising, Dave Winer fails to see the big deal about the free webb-based aggregator pulling stories off of thousands of news sources, grouping, relating and presenting them completely by algorithm.
His $40 native application, with maybe a tenth the amount of available news sources, and which does no grouping nor relating, is better, he claims. Mad.

Nevermind that. Browsing Google News, as a programmer, I'm struck with utter awe for the ingenious minds who put it together. The fact that not editors, but computer algorithms, are grouping together related stories, and, selecting "top stories" is just astounding.

  2. No no, it's still on it. It's way down there, just after item #2645, a sack of manure.

  4. Yeah, its amazing what the machines can do these days.

    Has anyone here seen ALICE?

It's good to be able to go to one site and see the latest stories from so many sources.
