Hindsight

  Jul 04, 2003

Two days ago, President George Bush tauntingly dared the Iraqi militia to attack American soldiers. He said "Bring 'em on", asserting that the US had the "force necessary" to deal with any threat.

Yesterday, a US base was slammed with mortar fire, injuring 19 American soldiers. The same evening, one US soldier was shot and killed in a convoy in Baghdad.

This is the first time the base was attacked -- and the first time we've seen mortars. Sgt. Grant Calease

Wether or not Bush's taunts were a triggering factor to these attacks or not is of course impossible to say. Maybe they were, maybe they weren't. Maybe it was just a fine example of the arrogance with which George W. Bush handles all international matters.
