A New World
Jul 23, 2003
I've been glancing in Python's way for a year or so now, I briefly checked it out maybe three years ago, at which point I found it interesting but not a distinctly invaluable asset. Nice, maybe later, I thought to myself.
Some conversations with Lawrence led to me giving Python more than a glance; I'm reading Dive Into Python at half-pace or so, among other online resources. By doing that, and talking to Lawrence, I'm incrementally discovering the Python universe. I'll definately be learning Python properly this time, along with Zope, and WebDAV, to begin with.
I've got a lot of reading to do.
What I don't know about the web technologies that I've already learned isn't worth knowing, what I've learned about the world of Python the last few days have opened up a completely new universe to me. The sheer size of which is so intimidating that I almost want to close my eyes, forget what I've seen the last few days, and pretend like I am where I was a couple of weeks ago; complete.
I'm exaggerating to convey a point, of course, but the reality is that Python and its associated peripheral technologies and environments is so incredible in mass that I don't understand how I've managed to not learn it by accident.
Luckily, learning Python is as easy as one-two-three with a background in OO and C/C++, but as with most languages, the hard part is learning one's way around the massive library and the surrounding environment.
